I got my driver's license back this week!! It was so exciting to drive to the grocery store yesterday all by myself, and to run errands today. I took as long as I wanted and didn't rush. I didn't have to meet someone in 15 minutes or mess with someone else's plans. Driving my own car whenever I want just feels amazing.

My return to the torch has not gone as smoothly as I’d hoped. The good news is, I haven’t had any more seizures. The harder news is, the meds required to prevent them are causing some challenging side effects. I’ve been able to get a full day at the torch in here and there, but the fatigue can be debilitating for weeks at a time. My neurologist agreed to tweak the dosage to see if that might help. When I can get to the torch, on the good days, I’m having a blast making beads again. In fact, I think I'll post one or two up for auction on eBay soon. I never did finish posting non-eye beads in my Etsy shop. I should probably get to that too.

A lot has happened since my last blog post. The first antiepileptic drug (AED) made me sleepy and nauseous. I developed a nasty allergic reaction to the second one and ended up back in the hospital. Now I’m trying to manage side effects of the third one. At this point I’m not allowed to work on the torch at all.  But the good news is, I haven't had any more seizures.

I don’t have much eye bead inventory left, but what I do have, I’ll be selling via my eBay auctions, one at a time.

And since I won’t be able to do shows anymore, I plan to reopen my Etsy shop for my non-eye beads. Check out how far I get here: http://www.etsy.com/shop/JinxGarza.

We’re still optimistic that we’ll find the right AED that will stop the seizures and allow me to start driving and torching safely.

On October 22, I was awakened at 7am by my husband and four strange men in my bedroom! Strange men in uniforms! I’d had a grand mal seizure and my husband had called 911. It took a long while for me to come to consciousness. I've never had a seizure before and they thought I might have had a stroke. When I finally came to, I was completely disoriented and couldn’t talk. I had no earthly idea what was happening. Eventually, they explained that I'd had a seizure and loaded me onto a stretcher, then took me outside where the ambulance and fire truck (why a fire truck?) were flashing lights. (Good morning neighbors!)

They took me to the ER, where I was given mega doses of an anticonvulsant. Ouch. They scanned my head to make sure my brain tumor isn't growing again (it's not), and did some other tests, and eventually sent us home. After meeting with my neurologist a few days later, we learned that I'd been having several episodes...

My beads and I will be at the Baltimore Bead Society's Winter Show, so do stop by and see us! This link goes to a page that lists last year's vendors so my name isn't there yet, but I will be there.

Thanks,

I will not be able to work in my studio for the next month or two. I still have some beads to sell, so keep an eye on eBay and Etsy.
