About

A little about me

Like many creative people, I didn't start out as an artist. I worked for the federal government for 25 years, living in Asia, Europe, and California before finally settling in the Baltimore-Washington area. I dabbled in several artistic media along the way, and took a few classes at the Maryland Institute College of Art. Each one had its appeal, but nothing really made me want to pursue it further.

.....

In 1995, a friend saw a bracelet I'd made and asked me, “Did you know that you can make your own glass beads?” I’d never heard of such a thing. I took a class at a local art center and was instantly hooked. I bought a torch on the spot and set it up the very next day. I was in love. I’d finally found my medium – molten glass! One of my favorite styles is the “evil eye bead”, a symbol of protection and good luck in many cultures. People liked my work so I sold my beads at bazaars and on eBay. Some of my eye beads were selected for the book 1000 Glass Beads: Innovation and Imagination in Contemporary Glass Beadmaking.

Things were coming along just just swell. But then... (see More about me).
